For the 2026/27 financial year, the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) has set the Luxury Car Tax (LCT) threshold at $91,661 for fuel-efficient vehicles (including all Battery EVs).

To qualify for the $0 Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) exemption, the vehicle's retail price (including GST and accessories) must have never exceeded this limit at the point of first sale.

The savings are two-fold: GST and Income Tax.

If you want to claim home charging, you will be able to do so using the 5.47 cents formula that the ATO has provided. All we need is for you to submit a claim via the driver app, with your odometer reading (and a picture confirming this) and our system will calculate the rest!

Claiming Public Charging is done by charging your vehicle at a public charging station, paying for the cost and claiming the cost back as a reimbursement expense. You will need to submit a receipt showing the cost in order for NLA to process your claim.

Please be aware that you must choose one of these two methods (ATO Home Charging Rate or Public Charging Reimbursement) to remain in effect for the entire duration of your lease. You cannot switch between or combine these methods once your lease term has commenced.

A common myth is that a novated lease "locks" you to one company. In reality, the lease is portable.

• Changing Jobs: If you move to a new employer, the lease can usually be "re-novated" to them. They simply take over the pre-tax deductions from your new salary.

• Leaving the Workforce: If you stop working, the lease becomes a standard finance arrangement (like a car loan). You continue to make the payments from your bank account, and once you start a new role, we can flip it back to a tax-saving novated lease.

When your lease term ends (typically 1–5 years), the ATO requires a small "residual payment" (balloon) to be made. You have three popular paths:

• Upgrade: You sell the car (often for more than the residual value), pay off the balance, and keep the tax-free profit to use as a deposit on your next new EV.

• Refinance: Not ready to let go? You can extend the lease for another 1–3 years and continue enjoying the tax benefits.

• Payout: You pay the residual amount and own the car outright.
